Funeral of the Rev Isaac Rangeley. br>"The funeral of the Rev Isaac Rangeley, curate of Darwen took place in the br> cemetery of this his native place, on Saturday, amidst the most widespread br> manifestations of sympathy and respect. The people of Hayfield may well be br> proud of him, for he won for himself such a noble name for his many christian br> virtues that it is the lot of few men to obtain. The Darwen Post on Saturday br> Feb 2nd says: - twelve years ago on New Years Day he came to undertake br> the work at Darwen, which he has since fulfilled with such earnestness of br> purpose and singleness of aim.
He was singularly devoid of ambition in the sense of desiring professional br> advancement, but he had a real and hearty sympathy with his townsmen, and br> especially his parishioners, and all that concerned their interest was his br> constant care. Simple-minded, gentle, kind, the better he was known the more br> he was respected and loved, and many are the folk he befriended who will br> keep his memory green. Such is the tribute paid to one of God's most faithful br> servants and that tribute if endorsed in its entirety by these old and faithful br> friends who assembled at Hayfield on Saturday to pay their last and heartfelt br> token of respect to him, and to show their deep sympathy with, and regard br> for his bereaved sister, Miss Rangeley.
The Manifestations of respect for the deceased shown by his parishioners of br> Darwen (St Barnabas's Church) were very great and amongst those who br> accompanied the body to Hayfield were Rev H H Moore vicar of Darwen, br> Miss Rangeley, Mrs Shaw of Ashton, Mrs Wright, Mr Wyatt-Stone, br> Staffordshire, etc. br> On arrival at the station the body was carried to the church. The bearers br> were Mr Wright Brocklehurst (for 50 years connected with, and now br> Superintendent of, the Sunday school), Mr John Rangeley, Mr Thomas br> Trevitt, Mr Joseph Hadfield, Mr Edwin Walker, Mr John Hampson, Mr John br> Lithgow and Mr Squire Hadfield."
