The High Peak Advertiser, Feb 8 1889:
Funeral of the Rev Isaac Rangeley.

"The funeral of the Rev Isaac Rangeley, curate of Darwen took place in the cemetery of this his native place, on Saturday, amidst the most widespread manifestations of sympathy and respect. The people of Hayfield may well be proud of him, for he won for himself such a noble name for his many christian virtues that it is the lot of few men to obtain. The Darwen Post on Saturday Feb 2nd says: - twelve years ago on New Years Day he came to undertake the work at Darwen, which he has since fulfilled with such earnestness of purpose and singleness of aim.

He was singularly devoid of ambition in the sense of desiring professional advancement, but he had a real and hearty sympathy with his townsmen, and especially his parishioners, and all that concerned their interest was his constant care. Simple-minded, gentle, kind, the better he was known the more he was respected and loved, and many are the folk he befriended who will keep his memory green. Such is the tribute paid to one of God's most faithful servants and that tribute if endorsed in its entirety by these old and faithful friends who assembled at Hayfield on Saturday to pay their last and heartfelt token of respect to him, and to show their deep sympathy with, and regard for his bereaved sister, Miss Rangeley.

The Manifestations of respect for the deceased shown by his parishioners of Darwen (St Barnabas's Church) were very great and amongst those who accompanied the body to Hayfield were Rev H H Moore vicar of Darwen, Miss Rangeley, Mrs Shaw of Ashton, Mrs Wright, Mr Wyatt-Stone, Staffordshire, etc. On arrival at the station the body was carried to the church. The bearers were Mr Wright Brocklehurst (for 50 years connected with, and now Superintendent of, the Sunday school), Mr John Rangeley, Mr Thomas Trevitt, Mr Joseph Hadfield, Mr Edwin Walker, Mr John Hampson, Mr John Lithgow and Mr Squire Hadfield."
