His burial entry on Hayfield St. Matthew's Parish register reads: -
George Rangeley "Died awfully sudden at Chapel en le Frith when in act stooping down to take a bag of flour
on his back to carry it to his cart."
George is buried with his wife Martha, daughter Sarah and grandson Moses.
Their gravestone is set into the pavement outside St Matthew's church, Hayfield Derbys. It reads: -
was Interred the Body of
George Rangeley who departed
this Life October 13th 1831 Aged
67 Years. Also Martha his Wife
who departed this Life June
23rd 1839 AGED 77 YEARS.
Sarah Daughter to George and
Martha Rangeley who departed
this Life Apr [?] 17[96?] Aged 6 Years.
Also Moses Rangeley Grand
Son to the above George and
Martha Rangeley who depart
ed this Life January 29th 1841
Aged 30 Years.
Notes from "History of Hayfield" by Houghton:
On Easter Sunday 1819 the crowd was immense. Hayfield Church rebuilding was finished,
rebuilt (except the tower) by the inhabitants. The total cost was £2,458. George RANGELEY contributed sand,
leading and limestone to the value of £18.
